It's Apple Season!

There isn't another fruit that says fall like the apple. So, to celebrate the most colourful of seasons, a few us ladies escaped the city for the hilly landscape of the country.

I don't think we could have picked a more picture perfect day to do so. The weather was beyond expectations - the sun was shining so brightly and warm that we peeled off our layers and hung out in our T-shirts. And, we were right on time to witness some of the most beautiful scenery I've set my eyes upon. The trees' leaves painted the landscape with shades of green, crimson and gold.

Our drive led us to Masker Orchard in Warwick, NY. Masker is a family-oriented orchard, where guests pick their own apples, and while doing so, eat to their heart's (and tummy's) content.

There were many apples to choose from: delicious, macintosh, empires, ida reds, prime reds and more. I had a taste of almost all of them and to this day, my favourite is still the mac - crisp and sweet. Plus, I just love its size - perfect for snacking.

We filled our bags with our favourites until we couldn't carry them (or, as in one case, the bag ripped from the stress of the weight). As we picked, we kept coming back to the same question: what exactly were we going to do with all these apples?

As I told my fellow apple pickers, all I wanted to make was a single apple pie. I guess I'll be baking and eating apple-themed goods for quite some time to come!

ONE apple pie?
I ended up making 6 tarts, 7 two-portion apple crisps, a spice cake, apple sauce and a dinner out of it and I STILL have a bowl full.
Looking forward to see some pics and stories of what ELSE you did with them. :)
