Making dinner reservations in New York is a frustrating feat that requires thoughful planning and organization (two things a scattered gal like myself doesn't do very well).
The first time I tried to make reservations at Babbo with only two weeks lead time, I heard the hostess giggle on her end of the phone before she told me they require 4 weeks notice (to the day) to reserve a table.
And, yesterday, keen to get a seat at the very newly opened Shang (a Susur Lee establishment, which I'm giddy to give a try) , I spent a good two hours dialing (and redialing) before my call was answered and my reservation secured. The best I could do was an early dinner for two, mid-week.
I'm just a gal who wants to eat - why does it have to be so hard?!
Well, for those without personal assistants, little patience and an open wallet - help is here.
CelebrityTables.com claims itself to be the source for last minute dining. Like ticket scalpers, these folks reserve tables "at the most coveted and highly acclaimed restaurants around" (yes, the same tables I'm desperately trying to reserve) and then sell them off from $30 to $50.
Is it worth it? I guess it all depends on you!
